KFD Volunteers, along with some participants from Bedford Hills Fire Department and Millwood Fire Department, took part in a Saturday live fire evolution run by Flash Fire Industries, a Monroe, Connecticut-based fire training company that brings live fire training trailers to area fire departments. A morning PowerPoint presentation gave an overview of back drafts and roll overs, two very dangerous fire conditions. Then, the participants donned protective gear, split up into groups, and engaged in live fire evolutions inside the Flash Fire trailer. The training provides firefighters with all of the live fire hazards they can expect to face, from the intensity of the flames to the extreme heat. The exposure helps firefighters develop the skills necessary to both fight fire and keep as safe as possible while doing that.
