Three new command cars recently went into service for Katonah Fire Department's three chief officers. The new Cars 2211, 2212, and 2213, are 2021 Chevy Tahoes that were held up by GM for over a year due to COVID-related supply chain issues. The vehicles were up-fitted by East Coast Emergency with Whelen lighting, Havis consoles and graphics to closely resemble what the first KFD chief car had many years ago. These command vehicles allow chief officers to arrive at emergencies quickly and they also provide a command post to run various types of emergencies with the increased capability of radio interoperability with other agencies throughout Westchester and NYS. Among the new features in these vehicles is smart warning lights that can be triggered by vehicle signal. For example, when the car is shifted into park, a slower and more controlled pattern activates, which studies show are better observed by motorists on the roadway, thus reducing vehicles striking emergency apparatus. Also included is a command cabinet by 1st In Products. This cabinet contains a filtered and sealed portion for turnout gear and SCBA. This allows the gear to be stored reducing the risk of any cancer causing contaminants on the gear impacting the air inside the car and potentially affecting the driver. The new cars replace two 2013 Chevy Tahoes and a 2016 Chevy Tahoe. The 2016 Tahoe will be remain in service as Utility 22.
