Tuesday afternoon became a bit busy for KFD, as volunteers responded to a mutual aid brush fire and an investigation at a building in downtown Katonah. At about 1 pm, KFD's Tanker 6 was requested to respond to a brush fire on Mills Road in Croton Falls. A homeowner was burning brush in a barrel when wind blew it over, starting a brush fire that extended up the hill behind his house. Numerous agencies from Northern Westchester County and Putnam County responded to provide manpower and water for the fire. Tanker 6 fed a Croton Falls Fire Department tanker at the scene while its crew went to work assisting other crews with extinguishing the fire. Tanker 6 was released from that scene at about 2:30 PM. Later in the afternoon, at 5 PM, KFD was dispatched to a commercial building on Katonah Avenue, whose occupants reported an odor of electrical burning in the structure. Engine 116, Ladder 39, Engine 115, and cars 2211 and 2213 responded. After a careful search of the entire building, the odor was isolated to a heating unit in the attic. KFD units were back in service by about 6:30 PM.
