Earlier this morning members of KFD, alongside members of the Yorktown Heights FD Dive Team worked together on an Ice Water Rescue training drill. The Katonah Fire Department covers the 4th largest area of open water (lakes/reservoirs) in Westchester County, so water rescue preparedness is of the utmost importance to our Department.
This time of year, areas of thick "safe" ice capable of holding 6 adults are mere feet from thin ice and open water. With ice storms and frigid temperatures one week and mild 50 degree stretches the next, you never can be sure what is under your feet!
Thanks again to YHFD's Dive Team for your time and your assistance in practicing these invaluable skills, and thanks to KBHVAC for providing a standby crew for us to ensure all members involved were safe.
