The first complete Katonah Memorial Day Parade in three years returned this year, with full ceremonies conducted at the Lawrence Circle Veterans Memorial and at Katonah Fire Headquarters. Jointly arranged by the Katonah American Legion Post 1575 and Katonah Fire Department, this year's ceremony featured the traditional parade down Katonah Avenue to Lawrence Circle, where a wreath was laid, speeches were delivered by Post 1575 members, and the "Star Spangled Banner", and "Taps" were performed along with a rifle salute. Music was provided by the Tappan Zee Bridgemen Band. The procession then marched to Katonah Fire Department Headquarters, where a wreath was laid at the Firefighters' Memorial, followed by another rifle salute. While an abbreviated ceremony was held last year, with the parade, the return of free ice cream for kids following the parade was a welcome addition this year. |
