Yesterday afternoon at about 1 p.m., Armonk Fire Department requested a second alarm for a fire that had broken out downtown at a bagel store and adjacent pizzeria. Katonah Fire Department's Tanker 6 and Rescue 17 responded immediately. Upon arrival at the scene, Rescue 17 set up its cascade air bottle replenishment system to refill the SCBA bottles used by firefighters from the 10 fire departments that had responded mutual aid to Armonk. Tanker 6 lent its crew to assist with fire extinguishment and overhaul. Katonah units remained on scene until about 3:30 p.m., when they were released by Armonk command. Fortunately, thanks to an aggressive attack by Armonk and its mutual aid responders, the fire spread was kept contained to the original two businesses.
